* IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE TAKEOFF 2020 EVENT

TakeOff 2020 will now be a Virtual Race

After careful consideration, the Trooper Iwaniec Memorial Foundation’s TakeOff Race Organizing Committee is officially announcing that the 2020 TakeOff Race will become a VIRTUAL RACE due to the health concerns surrounding COVID-19. The race is not cancelled, instead it is now 100% virtual. In this uncertain environment, the mission will go on.

The Virtual Race allows us to avoid any chance of spreading the virus while still enjoying the opportunity to participate in a great event. On Saturday, April 18, we encourage you to run or walk your event individually, wherever you are. Different streets. Same day. Same mission. This is a chance to show our strength in a challenging time and a chance to get out of the house to run with our virtual community across Pennsylvania.

Participants will complete their event on their own time on April 18. We will then mail all registrants a race shirt after April 18. If safe and appropriate, we will also offer a shirt pick up location. We would love to see you running on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook using the hashtag #trooperiwaniec and showing your passion for removing impaired drivers from our roads and for the law enforcement officers we all support. Individuals who have already registered are instructed to check their email for options regarding their existing registration.

The need for breathalyzers (PBTs) is evident and real. To date, we have 131 law enforcement officers waiting for units. The 2020 number of PBT applicants far exceeds past pre-race requests. Just to meet the financial demands of purchasing the 131 breathalyzers, we will need 995 Virtual participants and the continued support of our generous sponsors. We greatly appreciate you sharing our race information with others and encouraging them to register for our Virtual Race. Updated registration forms and links to online registration are available at https://trooperiwaniec.org/takeoff-race-1. We will accept registrations until April 18.

Help us make our communities safer by providing the necessary tools to law enforcement to remove impaired drivers from our roads. Together we can make a difference; we can save lives. Thank you for understanding. We will continue to pray for your health and safety.

Many Blessings,

Debra Iwaniec

Race Director

Kenton's Story

Memorial Highway

Kenton's Story

On March 27, 2008 Pennsylvania State Trooper Kenton Iwaniec, a Westmoreland County native, finished his shift at the Avondale Barracks in Chester County and began his drive home. Just two miles away from his station, an impaired driver crossed the centerline, hit Kenton’s vehicle head-on, and another beautiful life was added to the DUI victim’s death toll.

Kenton's Story

The mission of the Trooper Kenton Iwaniec Memorial Foundation is to honor DUI victims, raise awareness about the seriousness of impaired driving, and encourage the community to have a positive influence in the reduction of impaired driving. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we provide Preliminary Breath Test Devices (PBTs) to the Pennsylvania State Police and other law enforcement agencies throughout the Commonwealth.

On September 17, 2018 a portion of Pennsylvania Route 41 between state Route 926 and U.S. Route 1 was dedicated as the Trooper Kenton Iwaniec Memorial Highway.  Corporal Chris Winesburg, Lieutenant Rob Bailey, Senators Andy Dinniman, John Rafferty and Kim Ward were instrumental in the designation. In June 2018, the PA State Legislature unanimously passed and Gov. Wolf signed into law Act 61 of 2018.
